Do you know of any publications you can recommend?

This list is meant to be a guide for those who are looking for information that contribute valuable knowledge about dogs and their nature - and how we deal with it in a respectful and understanding way, for the purpose of enhacing the realtionships we can have with dogs.

We hope to grow this list dramatically and fast. If you know of any publication (book, video, e-book, web site, newsletter) you feel supplies genuien and valuable information about dogs, then please fill in this form and submit it to us so we can expand the list.

If you are in doubt what makes a publication qualifying for being on this list, then these are the criteria we use for editing:

  • The publication (e-book, video, book, web site) must be targeting dog owners who are serious about taking good care of their dogs, physically as well as emotionally. Publications that are aiming at a technical audience or any kinds of specialists only and publications that are presented in a way that is not understandable without specialist knowlegde or insight are not welcome on this list.

  • We welcome publications that shed light on areas like

    • dog behavior in general, including "problem behavior"
    • dog training and training programs
    • biology of dogs, including breeding and genetics
    • dog health maintenance, including feeding and general care, but not veterinarian medicine
    • legal problems related to dogs
    • the dog owner's rights and challenges as consumer of both expert knowledge and goods related to his/her dog
    • other topics that relate to the bonding between man and dog.

  • Publication that are not welcome include:

    • Publications that advocate abuse, neglect, or cruelty to dogs are not welcome. Our definition of abuse and cruelty includes cosmetic surgery that is not founded on health concerns, such as cropping of ears and ducking of tails. We further consider any kind of recommendation to use pain as an instrument for training as abuse.

    • Commercial literature whose main purpose is promotion of certain products or services and not genuine information of the public are not welcome.

    • Publications that make unsubstantiated claims or accusations of others.

    • Publications that are abusive and disrespectful of other people's rights to have a different opinion on a certain topic.

If you know of a publication you know fits with these criteria, please let us know! By being the sponsor of this information, you help the publisher reach out to more people and help more dogs live a healthy and enjoyable life.

In the following table, the publications are listed as we have received the information from the sponsor, and the presentation of this information is solely the sponsor's responsibility.

Give Your Dog a Bone Amazon.com Mogens Eliasen
October 1998
The great "pioneer" about raw feeding. Although built on some assumptions that can be disputed, the main aim of the book is to make it simple, affordable, and easy for a dog owner to feed a raw diet that at least is much better than kibble. The book does that - it is worth reading for anybody who wants to know about feeding a dog responsibly.

This is a completely new way of training dogs - and the effects are impressive! Forget about "obedience" - think about brainwork! It is far more effective, and far more fun - for both owner and dog. The results are amazing: my dog's general behavior has improved a lot since we started. She is happier than ever! And it really does not take much, when you follod the guide lines in this book!

A great book that explains some very surprising aspects of aggression - showing that is is not as evil as we are used to thinking. A "must-read" for anyone who deals with problem behaviors - or simply wants to understand the fundamental controls of behavior.
