Important Research Projects

Projects we know of that deserve your support

Mogens Eliasen - the editor of this page

Most of the research that is conducted nowadays is driven by a profit motive: no scientists can work for no money, so funding is always an issue when a new research project gets started. And who has the money? Answer: the big pet food manufacturers and the drug and vaccine manufacturers.

Those are the only ones that actually do provide mass-scale funding to research projects.

Isn't that good?

Sorry for calling such a question naive - but it is. If you think that a multi-billion dollar company supports research because they want to "be nice", you belong in another world.... I have worked as a researcher myself in big corporations, and I can promise you that nothing is done in terms of paying money for knowledge, if it was not because there was a profit motive behind. And worse yet: if the knowledge acquired does not support profit-making initiatives, then it is put under lock and not published!

This means that all research projects sponsored or funded by big industries will lead to results that either are good for the company who pays, or at least, in "worst case", not damaging. If there is any chance at all that the possible results could be damaging for the company's profits, you can bet your bottom dollar that such research will not be supported through "independent scientists", but will be conducted behind closed doors. Those money-makers are not idiots.

This means that the vast majority of knowledge that is available to the public is restricted by this commercial censorship. In other words: what is indeed made generally available to the public is heavily biased, and deliberately selected to support the profit-makers and not the dog owners or the dogs.

For this reason, it is extremely important that we all support those few and rare project that can counter this and provide serious and relevant knowledge to all of us about the truth - and not just those parts of the truth that support business.

If you are aware of another project that deserves mentioning here, please contact me and introduce me to it, and I will seriously consider adding it here.

Sincerely,

Mogens Eliasen

The Rabies Challenge Fund

Home page: http://www.rabieschallengefund.org/

The Rabies Challenge Fund was created in order to prove that rabies vaccinations are not required every year, not even every third year. They most likely are good for the life of a dog, but this study has, for practical reasons, set the goal to prove that a minimum of 7 years protection is achieved with well-manufactured vaccines!

Why the vaccine manufacturers don't tell this themselves?

Several reasons:

  1. They make more money by selling vaccines every third year than every seventh year...

  2. They actually never tested it, so they cannot legally claim this...

  3. They have a serious financial interest in the side-effects of repeated vaccination, as the health problems coming from that lead to sales of more medication in all other kinds of areas, where other "good money "can be earned from dog owners who believe in their vets...

Why don't the vets reveal this bluff and deceit?

Answer:

  1. Vets make more money on animals that are less than optimally healthy, but not sick enough to put down...

  2. Veterinary associations reign their members extremely strict on this, particularly in North America, where the associations control the business licenses of all practicing veterinarians, and those associations do not shy away from heavy financial punishment of any member who tries to tell the truth, because the truth will damage the business of other members...

  3. Vets are literally brainwashed to believe in what they are told, because they have no access to alternative research.

Why doesn't government then intervene and stop this grand-scale scam?

Answer:

Why should it? It creates jobs to keep those industries running, and jobs means taxes. Taxes means power. If government really cared for the health of people, then tobacco would be as forbidden as Marijuana is, and the tobacco manufacturers that deliberately pay for conducting research in order to find out what chemicals they can add in order to make tobacco even more addicting would sit in jail together with the drug lords!!

There nevertheless is a recent case where the US government actually did try to make the American Veterinary Association come to grips with reality. It was in April 2004. The Association was invited to negotiate with the government about implementing the recommendation from the 27 veterinary schools in the USA. Based on new evidence, they all supported a much less intense vaccination protocol than recommended by practically all vets. It makes sense that the association was asked to make its recommendations to its members, the practicing vets, follow along the same kind of guidelines as the schools actually were teaching new vets! But that was not the issue for the association. The association left the negotiations before the topic of "health" was even touched, when it was made clear from the government's side that it did not want to discuss any kind of financial compensation plan to the members of the association for the losses they would incur by adapting the schools' recommendations... So, quite obviously: the income of its members was more important to the association than the health or our dogs and their own integrity and ethics. The association would rather lose face than money.

We need something serious to counter all this kind of BS...

That's what The Rabies Challenge Fund is all about.

Two world-renowned giants of veterinary vaccine research -- Dr. W. Jean Dodds of Hemopet and Co-Trustee of The Rabies Challenge Fund and Dr. Ronald Schultz of the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine -- have volunteered their time to ensure that critical 5 and 7 year rabies challenge studies are conducted in the United States. The studies are to be financed by The Rabies Challenge Fund Charitable Trust, a tax-exemption organization founded by pet vaccine disclosure advocate Kris L. Christine of Maine in 2005, and will be performed by Dr. Schultz at the University of Wisconsin. The University has waived its usual 48% overhead fee for these studies.

The True Causes of Cancer

Home page: www.animalhealingchoices.com

There was a time, not too long ago, when cancer was relatively rare in dogs. They died of all kinds of other reasons, but rarely cancer.

That's not the case any more. Cancer is not the number one killer of dogs.

Well, if this was all a result of us being able to keep our dogs alive for longer time, then this would be understandable as a result of the extended life expectancy. At least, this is one reason that is often used in the human case, and because the life expectancy of humans actually has increased (but now is declining again), this could make some sense.

In the case of dogs, however, this increase of cancer cases as the main death reason comes along with a reduction of the dogs' life expectancy!

Conclusion: there must be some kind of change in the environment or in the genetics that cause this. And genetic changes are most likely also caused by environmental changes. So, it all boils down to the question: which changes in our dogs' environment could possibly cause this?

There is really only one way of finding out, and that is by gathering as much statistical information as by any means possible, and have that information give us the links between all the possible environmental factors and the cancer deaths we observe.

It is a huge undertaking.... it takes cooperation of thousands of dog owners - and someone to organize it all and put the results together for analysis.

Laura Leah English from Calgary, Alberta has established a foundation to conduct this research: Kali's wish Cancer Foundation. You find more information about it at www.kaliswish.com, where you are encourage to make a donation or in other ways support this charitable foundation.

Dr. Marlene Smith from "Tree of Life" in Courtenay on Vancouver Island, BC (home page: www.animalhealingchoices.com) has been well-known for many years as a pioneer in holistic medicine for dogs and cats. From personal meetings with her, I can certainly confirm that she is an open-minded vet who truly tries to be holistic in her entire approach to animal health care. This initiative just confirms it: she has accepted to make a major contribution for Kali's Wish Cancer Foundation and get started on gathering the required information!

Marlene asks that all dog owners who had or have a dog with cancer fill in a comprehensive questionnaire and submit it to her for analysis. You can find the questionnaire here: www.animalhealingchoices.com/CancerSurveyQuestionnaire.pdf. A scientist myself, I can add this comment to that questionnaire: It is thorough enough and organized with sufficient exclusivity to give a very good odds for identifying at least the worst culprits and thus from a genuine basis for making some very important conclusions and possibly digging further into detail later. In other words: this is no crap - this is worthy stuff.

So, if you have a dog or had a dog with cancer, of if you know someone who has or had, then please get that questionnaire filled out and sent to Marlene! All the instructions are on the questionnaire - just click on the link I gave you above! Or send that link to those other people you know!

And then, if you have a penny left, go to www.kaliswish.com and offer your support to getting this important study financed!

The worthy study you make me aware of...
